In fact a Lifeguard told me the area was closed as of the first of the year just over a month ago. So now that I am really confussed expect a call to the DFG tomorrow for a report. Glad to help. I might also recommend you take a look at page 5 and 6 of the pdf linked there, as while gerstle is closed, the area immediately north of it is open to recreational take. It does connect with Stewarts point area though just north of there, which is no take. Not sure if this saves your area or not, but worth another peek at the maps.
