Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
Ah yeah, we're getting this thread going now....
Nerka; For the trip up there, we based out of a waterfront house of a friend we know, and also did a lot of day-running. For a portion of the trip, we lived on the boats for about a week. Both boats sleep a few guys well, so we could pull that off. We had a bunch of waterproof containers for all our gear, plus the storage on our boats, so it was doable and pretty comfortable mostly? The scenery is truly off the scale, and was worth every minute of the year's planning that it took. Camping on the beach is doable, but then you have to deal with the bears, wolves, etc. Living out of the boats is so much more sano. Both boats are designed for just this sort of thing, so it worked out fantastic. |

JonDavies-
Yes, we traveled through there, and explored both to the north and south of that area. Absolutely incredible area as you know, any trailer boater could create a world class, lifetime-memorable trip by focusing along any of the hundreds of miles of unbelievable coastline up there. |

Allright, back on thread! Here's a bunch of shots of beautiful, functional, smaller boats, all built to serve a purpose and all a different branch off the same tree.

But in the end, surfer, diver, or whatever, it's the expression on this kid's face that we're all striving for, in some manner, on some level. The boats are just the tools that we obsess over to get us there.

Got a few shots of the Ratmobile down at the harbor a month or so ago. I really like what you, Bill, and Ed came up with the re-do; looks fantastic. All my buddies dig the commercial gray gelcoat, looks bitchen. |

alright if were gonna talk boats, im personally into stern cabins. Yeah yeah some people think they look weird but if youve never ridden in one in rough weather well... They ride alot better. Your not gettin pounded like you do in a forward cabin.
Radon had a 26x8 that had a three step hull and it surfed downswell better than any of the others. Here's a picture of my uncle old 26x8 stern cabin. The boat behind it is a 32x10 radon. 2nd pic is another 26x8 showing the hull |

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
EPIC thread! Whether it's a Radon or Anderson, they're both highly sought after, purpose built boats, and the envy of everyone who doesn't have one. As far as boats go, kinda the same as owning a bada$$ hot rod, no?
Strawbs! Looks like you've been killing the chones man! I'll agree with you that stern cabins definitely ride a lot better, but I always thought they didn't look as good, they were louder (being closer to the motor), and they're more of a PIA to get in and out of the cabin, and when you're on deck you're in the wind...so I don't know...I'd probably go with a forward cabin, depending on the boat... |

U.D.-
I'm like you, the stern cabins really look aesthetic to my eye. Here's a few shots of Yater's old classic, F/V Super Lite, one of the best looking ones design-wise IMO. One of the photos is back in the day with one of his shop rats holding it at the dock, and the rest are the new owner out on the hunt... |

Here's a way bad ass dive boat, an Anderson 26 'Hawaiian'. THis thing looks like a dream boat to me, super functional and beautiful as hell.
