personal best cobia

for too many reasons, work ,weather, stuff, i haven't been diving all year. A month and a half without getting wet is unheard of in my house. got a break and its time to play.
Got ahold of Seadog Debbie and asked her to join me in my backyard Palm Beach, on Calypso Charters on Ms. Jackie for a private outing.
1st dive was for lobster, then along came a shy bull with 2 cobia on it, well forget the bugs and hot pursuit of cobia, missed my first shot. cuss, cuss ,swear, swear. waited for him to come back, could not get him close enough. Not until i sent my surface bouy and line up did they appear. thur my reel down, worry about it later. Swam up current for my last chance at it, and finally got the bull to turn a little. took my shot and hung on. nothing like a palm beach sleigh ride. weeee. funny thing he dragged me back to my buddies where the reel rodeo began. what a mess of tangled lines. anyway, even though the cobia was not playing fair, would not be gaffed so my son John jumbs in with gun, no mask or fins and shoots it in the head, and we landed it on deck with great relief.
my personal best, 60lbs of wild ass cobia. Thank you Capt. Tony for fine boat handeling and gaffing, and John for putting some steel in the head. not sure if i freeked out Debbie, but it sure was fun.
Now off to rebuild my smoker
