Its like a mortgage. Got it for 15 years, so should be around12-13 years by now at ~$400 per month, I think interest is somewhere between 6-6.5%

How do you come up with a realistic value on a boat?

I checked the NADA on this boat and it gives a value between $22,000-$27,000.

I looked up my boat and it and it gave a value between $6,800-$8,900, and I just put over $27,000 into it since april of this year.

I know there is a lot of depreciation, especially at the early stages of a boat.

NADA Guides are not always accurate. We use BUC used boat pricing guide. The value you got out of NADA in this case is close to the BUC value but it is for the hull only. You can then factor in which engine you have and then a trailer as well. The range that is given out of BUC or NADA for that matter is then adjusted for geographical area and over all condition of the boat. Depending on what work was done you can then account for a percentage of that depending on what was done. If the BUC value of the boat is $10k for average condition but you had to put $20k into the boat to get it to that condition, then the value is still going to be around $10k. Now if that $20k went to upgrades above the normal condition such as high end electronics or if the structural components were made better than the original condition, then definitly that will raise the value of the boat, but you still wont get the full amount you put in, usually a percentage of it.

Ultimately it doesnt matter what the guides or apraisal says...the Market value is what someone is willing to pay for it.

I understand that, but the NADA for your boat did include an outboard motor.

But the problem I saw on the NADA on my boat was, on the outboard, you could not list what year or what size it was, mine is an Evinrude D.I. 225, with a 7 year warranty, that should add some value, shouldn't it?

also on your baot it had a place to check off for a hard top, but on my boat, it did not have a place to check off for a hard top or a T top.

The value that NADA gave for on a newer boat for accessories seemed to be higher that what they would cost new, but on an older boat they were real low.

It seems Like the NADA gives a better value on a newer boat, than on an older baot, that may have more and newer accessories.

The insurance companies, brokers, lenders that I have worked with pretty much use the BUC system. The NADA is just another tool to use to get close, but it has many inconsistancies as you noted. The folks at BUC are constantly updating values and they do a lot of research. I dont tink NADA is that proficient. Most surveyors will use the BUC system with supplements from NADA and others.

The BUC Value doesn't seem much better than the NADA, they listed a value on your boat of 20,300-$22,600 , that is without the motor, and NADA gives a value of about $8,000 on the motor, so with this system it looks like the boat might be worth $30,600.

In my experience with boats, the electronics really don't do a whole lot for getting you too much more money for the boat, but the buyer will usually try to get a good price on the boat without the electronics, and then they will want you to throw them in with the deal.

i just show a buddy of mine that boat he gave me a price $21.800 and between $8000 and $9000 for the motor despends on the shape and how it runs. he works for a major boat co. in NJ so i guess with the electronics you have , that could be a good price for that boat. and you count in the price for the trailer say give or take $500 but no matter what its still a nice boat so on that note ill start the bid at hmmmm, $1
