Out of anclote, pasco 2 hazy but top to bottom. Anything there on out to 50 was better! Got several gags, red grouper, hogs mango's, and Spanish mackerel. Good day! Wind picked up late pm. Viz started to decline around 3ish

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Went W out of Anclote and started in 70'. Vis was ttb and the cleanest I've ever seen at that depth. Only problem was the ledges were covered in gumbo. Saw 1 keeper gag on spots that are usually loaded this time of year. Came back in to 40 and still found gumbo but it was suspended in the column so vis was only 10-15'. Ended up with a single gag and a bunch of hogs. Some friends did well on gags but only when they got away from the gumbo.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Out to 65 ft on Friday June 1 off anclote was blue water vis an easy 50 ft. A few gags
Ars and Mangos ..beautiful or to 85 ft! With all the rain it surprised me!
Lots of inexperienced fisherman and divers pulling up to our boat
And 1 guy in a 50 ft Sea Ray waking us bad twice trying to pick off our number!
So so tired of this infantile thinking....please stay away and respect others!

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

H/L fished in 95 fsw just S of due west out of JP. With a slow bite decided to go over and take a look. TTB viz in blue water a small thermocline water 79 degrees, some stir on the bottom made things hazy. Just stringered a hogfish when I was encountered by an approximate 8’ 300# ish tiger shark. Swam right up face to face then circled me in close range. I held my stringer close and tried to distance myself ascending but he followed me all the way to the surface. My first bad shark encounter.

Later around 3 pm made a second dive in 55 fsw since we caught red grouper but only a short gag. Again virtually ttb Bluewater 79 degrees the same stir at the ledge this time with gumbo green brown algae on the reef, but none in the column.

Got off a shot on a gag that took my shaft under the ledge. I dug him out by hand not wanting to chance him tearing off the shaft. Scraped up but 26” to start off gag season.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Out of John's Pass Saturday, June 2, 2018.
Visibility was literally crystal clear. First dive in 55 foot of water we could see the bottom from the boat while on the surface. I shot a few fish then we moved out to 64'. Same viz. Picked off 18" Hog and nice 3 # mango. Hit a hump in 61' and got a 31" gag and closed out limit on nice male hogs. Was some gumbo. Not a ton.

We then moved in to 49-44 foot. Could see the barges for the renourishment project. Viz "deteriorated" to 25-30 foot. We ended up with 2 gags and 15 hogs for the 3 divers. Few mangos. Lion fish.

Really great day! Calm, fun, great viz. Saw big shark come cruising under me to hunt ledge in crystal clear water, turtles, huge prehistoric looking nurse that had to be pushing 8'.

Much thanks to Chuck Domson and Chawk25 for posting on Friday. They were my impetus to find a way to get out there Saturday when my first ride had a change of heart after hearing a poor viz report.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Thursday June 7 out of NPR. Went to 50 feet and water temp was around 81, viz top to bottom but got a little cloudy on the bottom horizontally. Not a lot of hogs, but found some nice sized gags, mangos. No ARS or lions. Very sharky - had one bug me on dive 1 and had 3 of them bug me on dive 2. They were sand bars. Other divers met our infamous bull shark on Bull Shaft. He was an asshole.

Ended the day with one 28.5" gag, 2 nice sized mangos, and a decent hog. 3 divers, but the other two hadn't dove or speared in a long time and were rusty so I ended up shooting all the fish.

VERY bad viz in anything under 45 feet, and 25 feet was horrendous. Saw a nasty orange/yellow bloom on top of the water in 25 feet and it was very "gumbo-ey" in a lot of spots.

What are you guys using for seas forecasts? I use weather underground and it's showing 2ft or less. The Tampa weather buoy showed almost 4ft today. I'd like to make a grounds run but need a dependable weather source...

We had 2-3 footers heading out today, some short chop at first. I use Windfinder, NOAA, and Weather Underground.

I use NOAA buoys, Windfinder, Intellicast and especially a very tall palm tree in my neighbors yard . I live about 10 min. from the Gulf.
