Re: Hogfish
Imported Hogfish will only have to be 14" , which will be the commercial Gulf size minimum.
That sucks for the everyone else , who have to comply by the 16" minimum . and a 25 lb a day commercial limit , when I normally land 100 lbs . Including my commercial permit since they moved the demarcation line. They should have made it 14" for everybody. The Gulf and SE Council also moved our Gulf demarcation for Hogfish from North of the Keys to 70 miles North below Ft Myers making our Gulf permits a joke . Most have dual permits if you fish the Keys fulltime. To rub salt into the wound during mini season recreational hogfish will be open . It 's only for 10 years , right ? By then I'll be 70 . I'm still putting them in the cooler till they implement the com rules though , I've got a email from Federal LEO to show any FWCC that inspect me , Inshore Put 71 lbs in the cooler yesterday in 1 1/2 hrs before the shark showed up . 84 lbs the day before ,2 hrs, same shark ; the water is a deep green with 15-20 ft visibility ,depending on the moment . when the tide starts moving 8 ft . the water is cold enough to add a layer and I had to buy a thicker hood. Cold water upwelling on the reef with really cold blue water , blacks , blacks , blacks , and more blacks on the reef . they follow you when you are lobstering like a cautious dog. just blew out of the NWest all day and it is washing out . lets see what tomorrow brings. |

Re: Hogfish
Not the same shark , but yes , I have met that shark ,one crazy fish , He even came to the transom before I got in the water once . like a dog patrolling his yard . mean and vicious . too many sharks , I blame the current practice of powerchumming for the increase in population . .
This visibility has been 8 ft up to 15 in some spots , and that is on top of the reef , no blue water , even the Vandenberg is marginal , been that way for weeks. Thank goodness I have most of my lobster spots committed to memory . land on the pillar coral , swim south 9 kicks , look for the sea fan , there's the flat rock , pick a few , east 12 kicks , follow the edge of the sand ....... it's amazing how well your brain somehow remembers a route that lasts an hour and puts you back under the transom of the boat. Have fun up there Kaynan , you not missing anything here except bad vis and cold water . |
