Floating Ankles at Bottom
I was just wondering if anyone here had any tips/a solution for a problem I have been having. My ankles tend to float up when resting on the bottom which makes it harder to conserve O2 and of course this can spook fish. I currently use carbon fins. While ankle weights seem to be a great solution, I assume that they will have a negative effect on efficiency during long swims out/defeat the purpose of having lightweight carbon fins. I usually wear 10-11 lbs with my 3mm wetsuit and around 14-16 lbs with my 5.5 mm wetsuit. I wear all my weight on my belt.

I guess it uses oxygen but I would think you would just use the weight of your torso as a pivot to hold your legs down.
Do negative buoyancy socks exist? |

Re: Floating Ankles at Bottom
Im guessing you are tall and skinny , we wear our weight further forward than fat guys ,and that makes for floaty legs , we also proportionaly have more rubber for our weight ,combined, this makes the problem worse . Ankle weights really help on surface swims by keeping your fins under water .
1/2 to 3/4# per leg really helps |

Re: Floating Ankles at Bottom
If the surface swims with the ankle weights are difficult then you could clip them to your float for the swim then put them on at your dive spot.

Re: Floating Ankles at Bottom
I was thinking the extra weight would be harder to kick with but it makes sense reading your other comment about keeping the fins down.
