Re: Blue Metallic Camo
Looks good. Did you use metallic flecks in the tinted epoxy or was it a paint for the colour?

it is metallic flakes additive I use 1 coat penetrating epoxy- then 2 coats solid colored epoxy for background - then I do the swirl- then 2 to 3 coats of clear uv inhibitive topcoats I use west system epoxy for all the structural stuff and system 3 epoxy for the clear coats- colors etc. the pigments I use are not the norm- I have tried dozens of different types and the best are used in jewelry making- very expensive- but super vibrant. I recently bought an airbrush with a ton of cool metallic and pearlized paints to go with it- I anticipate switching to painted finishes with epoxy clear coats soon- there is also a technique that they call "swirling" that is very interesting to me- google it

Re: Blue Metallic Camo
Thanks for sharing!
I have only used epoxy tints for my camos and so far so good but the white does yellow a little with age. I have tried a few different top coats for UV protection but found the ones I tried lacking durability and it scratched very easy compared to epoxy. Keep those photos coming. |

Re: Blue Metallic Camo
Holy crap! How big is that snapper? I'm a big fan of oil finished guns but that blue metallic camo is amazing. Maybe it's already been posted but what is the story with that beast? Who was the diver (location is obvious!) & what size gun/config was used? I still haven't had a chance to see one of your guns first hand but hope to in the near future. Thx. T

Re: Blue Metallic Camo
beautiful guns, whats your price on one of the rear handle plus guns like those ones in the first picture with say, 130cm band stretch? Option to add spare shaft/speedload kit/ magnetic track?

it's around a hundred pounds I think my friends alan and steven and rob were all in mx for a week I made them some new guns before they left alan has 3 of my guns now- all bought in the last 6 months steven has 2- that I made for this trip and rob is waiting for one now the pics of all 3 of their guns are at the top of this post -it's the two twin big blue guns and the dark blue one with the reel. these big fish (there are more pics coming soon) were taken with 60" enclosed track wood guns with almost rear handles. I seem to have hit a good combination of features on my wood guns lately- the rear handle wood 55" and 57" enclosed track guns are so freaking accurate and just easy to aim- that in our clear florida waters it really seems like the gun to have. Kelp forests are another beast altogether- and the mid handle hybrid still rules that though. j

those guns in the pics are 60" overall with 130cm stretch=700$ plus shipping includes 1 addiction spear of your choice colored epoxy is included take off 75$ for an oiled one (but you gotta swear to oil it!) they have epoxy graphite poured enclosed tracks - so you dont need magnets to freeshaft- I can make it a deep open or shallow open track on request (no xtra charge) a magnetic track would be an extra 20$ there are different speedload kits- none of them are too expensive if you are talking about - like what deathstick uses?- an extra 15$ at most a spare shaft varies with style and diameter- between 60$ and 80$ spare shaft holders for side of gun- whatever they cost- install is free riffe reel inserts are 40$ a pair installed (36$ for me to buy them) ulusub reel 65$- line extra slip tips are not included- I can get a spearmaster for 65$ (pretty nice) or you can get your own and screw it on- or mail it to me and I will tune it- etc. around 2 weeks to build and 1 week to ship paypal accepted thanks for the interest jason

the 55" has 3 bands - but it is a little thicker than I make the 2 band reef guns- it has around 3/4 of a # of lead in it- so it's not too light. personally- I like 2 bands on a gun that size, but recoil has never been much of an issue for me. I just dont like the tangle and slow reload of 3 bands. The guy who is shooting the 55" with 3 bands- says the recoil is not bad- the handle angle helps with this by locking your forearm too- that's why I use the ar-15 handle frames and grips- they are designed for a powerful firearm- so they maximize the angle of the dangle. It is deadly accurate with that setup and it tracks like a dream the 60" guns were made much fatter and stouter My way of thinking is- if you want more power- get a longer gun- not more bands- but some people want to shoot 8mm spears with big slip tips and stuff- and you need 3 bands for that. j
