Re: 25-30 ft vis at Port A Jetties!
I am brand new to this site and I like the idea of diving the jetty. Which jetty is better in Port A. the north or south one.
Do the rocks extend further into the gulf after the above water rocks end. and if so about how far? Thanks |

Re: 25-30 ft vis at Port A Jetties!
north should usually be better, try the surf side also... but getting there isn't very easy. you cant drive, you have to go by boat, and if you dont have a boat it gets tricky.... there is a ferry to the island called the "jetty boat" but the vis at the jetties is a shot in the dark.... dont expect too much... if you want to pm me your info and ill let you know the next time we go.

The north, off channel side is always better. Slingshaft took a nice mangrove right at the end of the jettys once on a trip I had. Usually medium sheepshed or nice horse mullet (yes they eat good fresh). Can't shoot them in late fall duer to breeding. Check TPWD site. Sometimes clear water even wraps into the channel side and on South side--very rarely.

Inshore waters were mucky this weekend. I didn't get in at the jetties, but the viz looked terrible out to 10 miles.

Re: 25-30 ft vis at Port A Jetties!
let me know next time you guys go. I've been trying to get out, but have had other things. We are expecting our first kiddo, a girl, in March/April so I need to get as much diving as I can in. The Winds have been laid down in the AM the past few days picking up in the afternoon. Not sure what this front is going to do, but if the wind holds I may freedive the jetties this weekend some time.
