questions about riffe standard and detachable tip
so i just got a Riffe standard 3x.
it was barely used and is in great condition but i have question's about the shaft its a threaded shaft with the Riffe 2 barb detachable tip. it has 17 1/2 inches of overhang, and it just looks like way too much. the shaft is 61 1/4" total and i think it calls for a 55" should i get a new shaft or have this one cut and re threaded? and what are your opinions on the 2 barb detachable tip? is it any good or would i be better off with a flopper? |

Re: questions about riffe standard and detachable tip
That's what i figured, it just seems overkill.
I'm more interested about the tip, i searched for reviews but couldn't find much it seems cool, but I'm tempted to just get a flopper shaft and buy a real slip tip for the threaded shaft |

Re: questions about riffe standard and detachable tip
I use to use double barb heads all the time on my old riffes' (never the detachable). Both are a pain to use. It makes it difficult to extract the shaft from the fish and reload. I personally now use only Hawaaian shafts. they are great.
Riffe Standard 3 is not meant for big pelagic fish as it does not give range, thus you don't require a sliptip. its an over kill for this gun. Thus you wil waste money on a new shaft and a sliptip. Modify the current shaft. I would strongly recommend you sharpen the the head (where the thread is) and drill in a flopper. |

Re: questions about riffe standard and detachable tip
im gonna take someones advice and get a new Mako shaft with flopper.
and the Riffe standard 3 is plenty big enough for any pelagic fish ill be shooting, mainly yellowtail and do-do's, and i want the slip tip for a lot better chance of keeping the fish. but if I"m wrong about the gun being able to shoot them someone let me know because that's all i bought it for haha Though im positive it can, the gun is 55" |

You can land those and keep them with a regular flopper shaft. You will learn to hate the slip for close shots. Anyhow your best to learn through trial and error, i guess.

Re: questions about riffe standard and detachable tip
Thats why i would have the slip tip for specific times, like paddy hoppin.
but i appreciate the opinions. I'll definitely get a flopper shaft though. i wouldn't want to shoot a slip tip into the rocks, and even though this detachable tip would be fine shooting in the rocks its huge! and i just noticed the steel cable has some cuts in it, and from what i can tell its not replaceable |
