4/29 La Jolla, no fish, terrible vis and a BSB encounter...

Chuam and I got in at Little Casa around 9ish. Swell is up and the water is dirty. Swam out to the kelp anyway just to see if we might bump into anything worth shooting. Lots of sardines and smelt around and I about pooped my pants coming nose to nose with a tanker BSB. Sorry about the crappy video. I have an original Gopro so no HD Hero footage from this guy!

Boo! - YouTube
The vis was so bad I could barely make out the bottom and when I was just about able to resolve my surroundings I recognized the big tank. I think he's a regular in the area, but I just wasn't expecting him to come out of the gloom like that. It's hard to tell from the perspective on the camera, but this on one big puppy. Well over 100lbs... You can hear me grunt in surprise when I finally figure out what I'm looking at...

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same one, he's been in those parts for years. I had him come over a reef and rush up on me........gave me the stink eye for what seemed like minutes. I think he wanted the YT on my belt.

The next five minutes of the video on the surface you can hear me laughing at myself.

Of course, if I had grunted much harder I would have pooped! Then it would have been even more funny!

Ha the same thing happened to me at boomers w/ a sevengill on friday. That was also the most exciting part of the dive.

Didn't have my camera last Monday when a seven gill nearly made me shart in Point Loma. I had just put a calico on my stringer and was breathing up to go get another when Mister Shark swam right under me. So much for my bottom time! LOL

love that! I have done the exact same thing about a half dozen times! I've never caught it on video though so the memory fades and I can't remember how many spots it had or exact details -- cool to catch it on film!

Love the sounds effects. That viz is for poop. Thanks for the report. Saves me time of going out tomorrow....
