Re: Photo of the day

Just do the math on automobile purchases and break it down as cents per miles driven....It will shock you!

We just sold one car we bought used, came out to 6.5 cents per mile.

My expedition, which is nice.......I will need to drive it for 750k miles to get down to 6.5 cents per mile.

Then try the math on a boat.....cost of hours of use versus price...........SCARY!!!

Now another story
Came to this country with 500$ in my pockets, no job, no English.
I bought my current car when I had 300$ cash ( put down from credit cards ) lol.
With 40K credit cards debt started my business with debt by obtaining Biz credit cards( spent 2 month to build my profile for it.) Work from home, days off at any time.
I would say that buying a car is a bad debt, but I enjoyed every day of driving my car, so I think it was perfect decision.
There is a good debt, if you can turn money around to pay back debt and make profit.
I agree on good debt. When I was contracting I bought new trucks every 2 years at 0%.Accountant said I needed the write off or give the money to Uncle Sam.I loved my 4x4 Lariats but every time I looked at the contract I thought"Thats Benz prices"!
I built my first log home(1500 sq ft) on 3 acres fully furnished in 2003 for about the price of two new trucks.I needed a dependable truck to run around the country and carry tools so I took on the debt.

I bought the little 06 Colorado last spring well under blue book from a buddy that has a dealer license.Getting new head and tail lights a 2"lift and new shocks today or tomorrow.New carpet and Neoprene seat covers after that and possibly a bull bar with driving lights for the forest roads.Probably have 6K in it after everything is done.Already did new tires, brakes, rotors, window tint and a new radio. No power windows, locks, seats, lumbar support20 mpg around the mountains and around 24-26 on the highway.Cost me around 80 bucks round trip from Ga/NC border to Destin Fla. to get my saltwater fix.
The 2000 F350 is 7.3 XLT that will probably bother me to sell.I put 140,000 on it running all over the country.Everything I thought might wear out on the road was replaced.Average mpg with a 34ft travel trailer or gooseneck trailer is 13-14 mpg.I bought her years ago for blue book today.Wife wont drive it because its a stick shiftI can run a veggie oil blend for about a buck a gallon.Mileage goes up on the veggie or with 2 stroke oil added. My 2003 6.0 was a beast WHEN IT RAN.Biggest POS ever pushed from Ford.Nothing but a money pit.
Price aircraft and price per mile. You will get a sinking feeling in your stomach just adding up the cost.My uncles advice to me after I was married, with a boat and in front of my wife and his wife"If it floats, fooks or flies its cheaper to rent it"Too late for that advice !

Hell the first time I cut my wifes credit cards up and had a long discussion on finances she thought she could just pay minimum payments and when the card maxed out she just got another one!She had enough shoes to make Esmeralda Marcos jealous. Her family still spends that way.If they hit the lotto they would be in debt in five years.
Dave Ramsey.I dont agree on no credit at all but he has good advice on going debt free.Debt is self inflicted slavery.
Plus 1 on this post. Dave is a little extreme, but his plan works if you follow it!

Re: Photo of the day

Ramsey has good solid advice but everyone is different and their situation.
When I was in High School my math teacher was amazed how much I improved when I took Business Math.To me it was something I knew I would need and I already had a Lawn Service with around 35 accounts and I absorbed everything he had to say about savings, balancing my accounts, debt and retiring from simple interest(8% a looong time ago).
My Grandfather was great at business. He had a 500 acre dairy farm and a house in Floriduh paid for by the time he was around 50.He lived through some rough times and knew what hard work was.Grandmother divorced him(he became an uncontrollable drunk)and she with the help of my father pissed about 250k and a house away in a few years on church donationsa dogged out gas guzzling Piper Apache airplane and expensive vacations. Both died broke.
Some people have no self control or clue about money, finances or the crazy notion of putting money away for emergencies or setting up a fund for their children.
I have some relatives that are absolute idiots when it comes to money. When the economy was booming they still were trying to borrow from everyone because they were maxxed out with the banks. One is a pretty good Attorney and makes over 300k a year.Nothing saved but a 401 from the firm and loaded to the gills in debt for his porsche, booze, blow a escort bills. Then cries he cant afford a fishing boat!Get rid of the car!
Guy I know lends at 20% monthly.Another will do 15% monthly. They love dumbasses.

Re: Photo of the day

More truth, Ob. The financial situation of the average, “normal” American is scary. I read somewhere that the average American is 2 weeks away from insolvency at any given time. First time he (or she) doesn’t receive the bi-weekly deposit the 14 day counter starts. Stepping into retirement debt-free is a must for my personal plan and we’re there, primary mortgage, 2 condos, and 1 rental house and all, in 5 more years, barring some major unforeseen world event.
