Carry buoy/flag floatline over land to shoredive

I am still trying to find the most effecient way to carry gear over land from car to water. This season I rigged a short bungee to front of my lifeguard can buoy so I could comfortably sling it over my shoulder while walking. The con was the bungee sinks in water especially with tuna clip from floatline attached and then bumps rocks.
Any ideas out there?
Any ideas for keeping a spike/cable stringer from tangles with floating seaweed when mounted to a lifeguard can buoy?

If you were handy with a sewing machine or knew someone that is, you could fashion your own straps. Just a thought.

For the stringer -

Get some thin rubber tubing or something elastic that will fit over the end of your stringer spike. Thread this onto your mono and slide your stringer spike into this til you need it. Keeps it out of the way.
