Freediving Course

Hey guys so I live in San Diego and I'm looking to take a level 1 freediving course to improve with my breathhold (static PR: 2:25) and technique and therefore increase my maximum depth/bottom time (I've dove around 50 ft before but had very little bottom time.) Anyways, I was looking for opinions on courses.

I'm choosing between Mark Lozano's level 1 course.

And Dive California's level 1 course:

would love to hear your thoughts on previous experiences or recommended courses.

Re: Freediving Course

I've never heard of the Dive California place or their courses. I would find out who the instructor is and what their qualifications are. Mark Lozano is pretty well known and I'm sure a lot of people on here have taken a class from him. I would be inclined to go with Mark first.

Mark is a good guy. I took a level 2 class with him a few years ago.

Re: Freediving Course

My son and I had an excellent experience last summer with Garo, our instructor through PFI. We both managed 4:00 statics and 20 meter dives by the end of the level 1 class. Pool sessions in Solana Beach, and ocean at LJ Shores.

Re: Freediving Course

I took a class with Mark around 3 years ago and he still answers any questions I ever have.

Mark not only was able to regurgitate all the info in the work book, which are amazing and a great wealth of knowledge, but he was able to answer and explain any question people had in the class.

Very chill and brought a calm and confident teaching style to the class that helped us relax. I remember no one broke through the murk in the first 40' or so at first and Mark dropped down to around 70' and came up telling us how much vis opened up on the bottom and how beautiful it was in Monterey Bay.

Soon after a few of us hit the 20M and even though a little overwhelming, Mark was able to keep it fairly simple.

I took Level 2 with Dan Koval and I would jump at the chance to dive/take a class with Mark or Dan anytime. Excellent interactions with all of the Fii people.

Can confirm. Lozano's freediving is the way to go. Mark is a super relaxed guy and he explains everything really well. You'll hit 20m easy if you listen to his directions and do what he says.
