Anyone flown Copa Airlines with speargun and dive gear?
I found this on the baggage part of their website. Any experiences out there?
For the empty tank and a bag containing some of the articles mentioned here, there will apply a service charge for two separate pieces. Copa Airlines and Copa Airlines Colombia do not accept diving equipment as part of the baggage allowance permitted. Diving equipment consists of: An empty tank. A regulator. A pressure measurer. A mask with a breathing tube. A knife. A harpoon. Wetsuit. A belt with weights. |

I have flown Copa in and out of Panama. Freedive gear with spearguns. They weighed and measured the sport tube. Know your info!

Re: Anyone flown Copa Airlines with speargun and dive gear?
I have flown into and out of Panama City as well. They lost my Sportube 3 and stole all my stuff out of it when they finally got it back to me a week later.
Keep all your baggage receipts, use a Credit Card to pay for your luggage that also insures the luggage to. Filing a claim with COPA and getting money back took 6 months of hassle. FWIW, when leaving Panama, the TSA people there were MUCH more strict what I carried on compared to our TSA going there. Don't have anything dive related; bands, float line, float, weights, band tying line, etc.

X2 they didn't care on the way to panama but they tried to stick me with a large fee for the sport tube coming home. Didn't get charged in the end, but i used up all my Spanish getting things cleared up
