horse conch

does anyone know if you can eat horse conch, i read that humans dont eat it but i was wondering if that was just bull to keep you from catching them?

they dont tasts as good as the other kinds. more acidic tasteing ahey also have a 12" size limit

so they are legal to get in south florida, im in miami by the way i dont know if there legal or not, a friend of mine brought one to me and didnt know anything about it

According to the FWC, the Florida Queen Conch is the only protected species of shell around here, so yes, you can take Horse Conchs, but I've never heard of anyone eating those. I've heard the Conch Chowder we eat in restaurants usually comes from Queen Conchs from the Bahamas.

The only other restriction I know about is for Lee County (west coast of Florida, around Sanibel Island). You can't take most live shells. The exact wording is: Prohibits all harvest of live mollusks and echinoderms (except oysters, hard clams, sunray venus clams, bay scallops, and coquinas) in Lee County.
