Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Got out twice this weekend.

Friday 8/28. The pines (14 miles north of Sebastian 60FSW) moderate current, vis about 10-15 on the bottom. Cool not cold. Picked a few BIG bugs. Sadly not many fish. Big change from two weeks earlier when vis was top to bottom

Saturday 8/2. Port Canaveral. Dutch wreck and small reef near Lead wreck. Challenging conditions. STRONG current. Had to pull down the anchor rope. Vis less than 10 ft. Colder but not cold. Low 70s? Lots of fish but none to shoot. All either out of season, game fish or undesirable species. Good/ bad news..... not seeing many lions lately.

Hope this helps anyone planning a trip

Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Dove today NE of Sebastian in 95 FT. Vis was 30-45 ft. Some lions (11), lobsters (10), triggers. The bonus was some good video of Bull sharks, blue runners and cobia below the boat. Lots of Bulls around. Bottom temp 70. Really nice diving.
Also, the beach looked clear in front of Disney.

Dove 3 mile reef today (40 ft off Vero), 4 ft vis. Went into the beach and it was spotty, 4 ft in one spot and then a mile away it was 30 ft. Weird.

Thanks for that site. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries
Looking thru it is a Real Eye Opener.
Look at India's population, and number of cases ( compared to the US)
Or look at China, ( same thing, population and number of cases compared to the US!)

Hey, at least we're leading the world!

Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Steve, thank you for the reports, I am going out tomorrow and i will post vis report.

Regarding COVID stuff, I focus on daily deaths attributed to COVID as more reliable statistics. In the US we have almost unlimited access to tests and this may reflect much higher number of cases comparing to other countries. Also, number of cases in India seems to be increasing while we have reached plateau. I cannot comment about China because I do not trust anything communistic government is saying.

Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Went out Saturday 9/5. We went straight east to 90 feet and had less than 15 foot of visibility. The next dive we went a little north to 75 feet and found around 12 foot of visibility. Both dives had decent thermocline down to the mid 60s. The final dive was in 60 feet and there we found the dirtiest water was on the top 15 feet. 20 feet from the surface you could see the bottom and water was warm. The deeper dives we had Bull sharks on the surface with only tiny Cobia.

Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Sunday 09/06/20
NE of Sebastian in 60 ( Pines area): good vis 20-30 feet mild thermocline from 80's on the surface to 70's on the bottom

E of Sebastian in to 90's 20-30 feet vis, mild thermocline at 30, water on the top crystal clear, little murky on the bottom. Very sharky, counted 5-6 on the dive, curious but friendly.

Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Drove out to the Maryland yesterday (23 miles east of Port Canaveral, 120FSW) because the seas were so flat. How bad could it be that far offshore, right? Absolutely the worst vis in my life!!! I decided to pull down the anchor line as the water got murkier and darker. I touched the chain before I could see it. OMG!!!

We moved to two different spots (Hummingbird and Dutch wreck). Both garbage. Even the top water was maybe 10' of vis.

Might be my last dive attempt along central coast this year. What are the chances it will clear up before the noreasters start.

Keys in November!!!

Re: Sebastian or Canaveral Vis

Any vis reports out of Sebastian? I am hoping to dive Friday in the Pines area (north 60's) or vero beach pier (south 40's). Any reports are appreciated
