Dive conditions north of Orange County.

Apparently, the dive conditions have gone from bad to worse in Laguna Beach. Does anyone know if the conditions are better at PV or other areas just north of Orange County?

P.V. was 12-15 foot viz on sunday. with 2-4 foot waves and soup
fog 50 yards from shore you could not see the cliffs or find the exit spot. if you don't know p.v. don't go out in a heavy fog.

You better try and find an area that doesn't get hit by south swells. In Laguna B. yesterday there was 4-6' surf from a large south swell and it only got bigger today. I would say Santa Barbara, which usually gets shadowed by the islands on souths, but from the looks of the So. Cal swell model they are probably seeing some sneak through, and that's a little bit of a drive.

I went out to Catalina Sunday. I started out at Binnacle Rock on the east-end backside. There was a manageable swell, and the vis was about 10-15', but the fishing boats were stacked-up at every kelp from seal Rock to China Point. I went over to the front side and the visability was terrible. I could barely see the end of my spear.

Thumbs down

Nuts. I was hoping at least PV would be clear. I've wanted to try diving there, but I think I'll take Pipe's advice. Looks like no diving this weekend. At least my wife will be happy about this.

Actually had decent vis on the front side of Catalina last weekend. Saw one WSB cruise by, but it looked kind of smallish so I didn't take the shot. Pretty cool to watch the fish disappear right in front of my eyes, though.
