5/27 report
Went out of Port O'connor, hit a rig about thirty miles out. Water was insanely clear. Fished for awhile and caught some huge slabs, but threw em back since snapper season hasn't started yet in fed waters. Caught a nice king and a triple tail with a spoon that was hanging around a submerged trash can.
Later we put down the rod and reels and jumped in. Missed a big Cuda with the speargun but got some vermillion and gray snapper. Huge cobia was above us but did not have the gun ready. This was my first spearfishing trip and also the first time to dive a rig. I had some bouyancy issues since I was wearing a wetsuit and needed some more weight so we only dove to around 50' and I had to hang on to the dive line that we had off the rear of the boat. My buddy shot a big Jack for some target practice. We stayed out until 7:30 pm and then hauled ass in. Game wardens were stopping people near the Marina but they did not stop us, we were legal anyway. Last edited by scuba201; 05-30-2018 at 09:51 PM. |
