Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

You can make a "Partial Enclosed Track" which opens up 12-16-18" Usually that's done for another reason, but it does make loading easier. If it were me, I'd open it up 8" from the muzzle. That's enough to give you a little 'landing strip' That gun looks real nice. Looking forward to more pics.

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

I always hate it when I'd be reading people's posts on their builds and researching how to do something, and there would be a big gap between posts. Sure enough, I did the same.

Anyways, here is where the gun is currently at. Used several layers of CF around the trigger guard, handle, and nose. Only a single layer where the wood is thick, as the padauk is plenty strong.

The push rod hole is about 1/4", and it goes all the way out through the back of the gun, I left windows to rout out slots through the CF for the remote trigger and the trigger mech.

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

Is that the Same gun? I really like the lines. Is that CF or Kevlar?

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

It's the same gun. I used CF, but I'm gonna laminate one final layer of blue fiberglass over the CF (for one final layer of strength and to hide some of the seams), and inlay some white mother of pearl shells to make stars and call her "Ole Glory"

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

MH Engineering Question: What is the optimal length from the back of the handle to the butt pad?

Currently my bluewater gun is only 10" plus 3/4" rubber buttpad for a total of 10 3/4"

My Ulusub 160 measures 11 1/2" from back of handle to butt pad.

I was thinking of adding 1" to the butt by either epoxying 1" more Padauk or adding double thickness rubber butt pad.

Just concerned because a gun this size might need a fair bit of leverage to move it through the water.

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

I've recently discovered that my enclosed track fits a little bit loose in the dovetail slot I cut running down the length of the gun.

As the gun has already been shaped, I cannot fill the dovetail with epoxy and reroute the dovetail slot.

My lone idea would be to brush on a thin film of epoxy on the bottom of the dovetail slot so that the track fits a little tighter and doesn't have enough wiggle room to elevate.

Any ideas?

Measure from the web of your thumb to your bicept . For most people that is between 11"-13" . I do 12" for most guns unless the owner is really short or tall

Loose is good , as long as it's not soo loose that it might fall out you are fine . A uhmw track will allways be loose when it's cold and grow when it's hot . When the gun is warm the track on a gun that size will grow in leinth by close to 1/2" vs when it's cold .

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

So you are worried about the UHMW Track rising in the Dovetail groove? If the rest of the gun is Epoxy covered, it might make sense to seal the inside of the Dovetail groove if it's not. A Thinned Epoxy, but I'm guessing that already done. The Back of your UHMW Track is screwed down right? If so I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: 69" Bluewater Cannon Questions

Almost forgot to post the money shots! Thanks again to everyone for the advice and guidance! It's pretty fantastic how responsive the community is to even the smallest and most detailed questions.

Special thanks to Behslayer as I copy the measurements for the band grooves in this gun from my Ulusub.
