Heading to Bahamas!
I am headed to Bimini Bahamas this weekend via boat heading out of Miami! It will be my first time in such a place and I hope to do some spearfishing. I am aware of the regulations and am going to get my hands on a good polespear. I was wondering if anyone had any information if there is any decent shore diving in Bimini or if i will need to boat out for some good seafood! Let me know any information is appreciated

Re: Heading to Bahamas!
Been to bimini many times, go at least 1 time a year, boat is really necessary, for most everything/ travelling to alice town, guy harveys place, lobstering, take a weapon for sure. Police will be many hours if u have problems. Days, and when they get to u they w be looking more at u than the bad guys. Its changed little since the casino, but the square grouper went out of business. 1 of the best restraunts. Gone

Re: Heading to Bahamas!
Using google earth and navionics can dial you in to reef and structure pretty easily. There are big fish there and it may be worth your while to find a local guide to either go with you or give you some starting points. A few bucks can go a long way to getting on good fish and if you are making the trip, you don't want to waste time on unproductive spots. Once you have 1 or 2 starting points, you can find a few on your own.

If you want to explore charts before you buy the app you can see them here: https://webapp.navionics.com/#boatin...y=mha%7CCrsxbN That link zooms you into Bimini. You can zoom in and out just like if you were using the app so you can check out the charts close up. |

Re: Heading to Bahamas!
If you go straight east from Jupiter 60 miles you can reach parts of the bahamas. Do you have to check in anywhere? Can you just drive over fish and come back?

Without a Bahama cruising permit, I believe it is illegal. We were up north of Memory Rock last year on our Panga and were thoroughly checked for cruising and fishing permits etc. Nice Guys but thorough. Fortunately we had come out of West End and had the necessary paperwork. Mike. |
