You really need to know the range of movement incapacity of the diver as to what he can load. A short pneumatic is a short pull without much shoulder movement, but say a 100 cm and up you have a long reach and rotation of the shoulder. I have loaded and shot all the muscle powered speargun types and if he can use leg loading on a band gun that may be his best bet.

Nobody has mentioned “load assist” bands. Rob Allen makes one.
I had a ruined shoulder, this helped me till I got a total shoulder replacement. It made it possible to load a band gun, and get some more dives in before surgery. I highly recommend one. Not a complicated design or project. |

After all this time he has probably made a decision by now, but that assist band with a hook does improve your reach on longer guns.
