Very interesting reading...I am not a fan of sea lions (having to punch more than a few in the nose to take back a yellowtail they laid claim to) but, they are a neat animal to see, especially for children out on the ocean for the first time..On the positive side, they can put you into bait fish schools where gamefish are likely to cruise thru and when they all get out of the water suddenly, are a warning of things to come if you are alert to your surroundings!.
...With an almost certain El Nino condition along our coast thru Spring, a variety of animals may suffer poisoning from a combination of domenic acids and algae blooms caused by storm water runoff from up north farm pesticides and fertilizers....it is not a pretty sight, watching majestic pelicans crash into cars and stagger around looking drunk...

They need to move some of those disease ridden animals South so it spreads.

Re: Major Disease Outbreak Strikes California Sea Lions

I saw a dead one on Tuesday diving the kelp beds south of Carmel.

I saw it's ass end sticking up out of the kelp from about 10 yards away. I approached with apprehension, half afraid that I'd find it floating there with a chunk missing, but it was completely intact as far as I could tell. I wonder if it had died from the disease mentioned in the article.

I was at 9 rock fish for the day and already had my two lings, so I decided to call it there. Kinda spooky seeing it just floating there.

I was shore diving, so unfortunately I didn't have my camera.
