Foodsaver Bags

I know a lot of the guys and gals on here use a foodsaver for their catch. I just picked up a food saver last week and have already run out of the included bags and rolls just refreezing meats and veggies in the deep freeze.

Where is the best place to get the replacement bags? Any good leads on the interenet or just buck up $20 at walmart?

The cheap walmart bags suck. freezerburned a bunch of fish using those. I would like to find some good cheap ones also.

Re: Foodsaver Bags

I've taken to using Costco foodwrap. Wrap tightly about 20X and it keeps the fish fairly fresh.

We usually don't keep fish for long anyway so this method has worked well.

Sam's Club has the Food Saver brand of bags in a large box. I have not had trouble with those bags.

Guys , I usually just use large freezer bags. Add whatever it is you are freezing, then add tap water slowly and seal while squeezing out any air. We use that for everything from game/fish to veggies.

Jarden for sure. Look for the webspecials and try to order 4-5 rolls at a time.

Re: Foodsaver Bags

Aaron,
I was using water also, but I am wanting to thaw food faster, even with my thawing plate it takes a while. I dont always remember to get the package out of the deepfreeze in time...

I saw some good deals on ebay. just wondering how they stand up over time...

That's true...you do kinda have to be mindful of the time.

Re: Foodsaver Bags

I personally dont like the "foodsaver" bags there a little thin & the ends tend to curl up making it hard to get a good seal. I tried the seal a meal bags, alot thicker & the ends dont curl. Never had a single bag fail, It's all I use now. You can get them at K-mart or Target,I think there about 10 bucks a box.

Re: Foodsaver Bags

Really the problem with water freezing is that whatever is in the water (sulpher, excessive minerals, etc) go into the meat before it is frozen.. I used to use a foodsaver, when it died my wife bought me the cheaper, but equally good, Deni Magic-Vac. It is a no-frills vacuum system, but I find less bad seals than I had with the foodsaver. The bags are cheaper, but when I needed bags fast and couldnt wait for them to be shipped, the foodsaver bags work in this system (but not vice-versa, shame on foodsaver for that)...

Give the deni a look if you are in the market, I love it..

Re: Foodsaver Bags

I agree the cheap walmart brand realy sucks,...As for good seals I found if you get the fish as dry as possible you don't tend to have a bad seal

Re: Foodsaver Bags

My local Ralph's super market carries Rival Seal-a-meal, and I've been using those bags in my Food Saver. They work fine.

Re: Foodsaver Bags

Costco has a box of 6 like Prater was talking about as well. I trade a lady at my office a pack or two of grouper and she brings me a box. Works out great.
