4-6 on the inside usually = 8-10 on the outside.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Its blowing pretty good right now, which SUCKS cause otherwise it would be beautiful, sunny, & warm.

Looks like perfect weather for a sea trial of a boat I'm looking at, though...

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Yup, just returned from a patrol all the way up to Tajiguas again. I stopped in probably 20 spots along the way up and 20 more on the way back. Went in the water in two or three spots, and in those spots I couldn't see the end of my 75cm gun.

Very dark, murky green water.

Best viz I found was off the Mesa at about 10:00 am on my way back and it was maybe 2-3 feet at the surface at best.

Disappointing, because otherwise, it is a BEAUTIFUL day out there and getting better by the minute... (except for the viz)

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

I launched my boat in SB and headed south for about 10 miles, stopping at some of my spots today. The ocean looked so green and murkey I didn't even get in the water.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Went out again this morning, but this time with H&L. Conditions still very similar - murky brown/green water, but there were a couple of spots in 50' to 60' of water where it was really clearing up to maybe 15 to 20+ feet. I only found two such spots, and they were small and not in spots I would typically expect good viz. (really random spots out in the deeper water on a course from the Mesa to Campus Point). Worst viz was definitely off More Mesa and along Goleta Beach. Did not go past Campus point today.

Bait was abundant - LOTS of dolphins working and sea lions picking up the leftovers. The calico were biting the swimbaits, but it was very inconsistent. We were casting along the shore in front of the KEYT towers for halibut, and the water looked like pea soup, but you could see a LOT of bait flashing. While we were drifting, I watched two sardines leap out of the water in front of the boat, chased by a short halibut, who did a fast about-face when he saw us about 3' behind him.

Water temp varied between 57.5 in the deeper water and 63 degrees along the shore. If this water clears up, I think it may be just about halibut hunting time!

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Water temp at an undisclosed location off the coast was 59* yesterday; tempbreak.com to my surprise is a very accurate and useful tool. Had some decent vis up to 30 in some places. The only thing active that I saw was WSB schooling on the surface and couldn't get them to bite. They were able to elude me underwater quite well, only saw one and did not feel like throwing a hail mary. gorgeous day anyhow

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Well good to hear someone is seeing fish. I looked at it today and it still looked pretty terrible. on the up note it looks like the weather is finally improving which means we may not be far off from some good diving conditions.

oh well im heading to mexico on wednesday so that should be good, maybe by the time i get back the water will have calmed and cleared.
