Sonoma County Report
Dove Horseshoe Cove today 12/25 for the third time this month, and as usual it did not disappoint. Conditions were good, with an off-shore breeze and clear skies. I had rain the last two time at this location, with better vis thou and better fish I might add. Today's swell was 6-7' with a good amount of surge even at the 35-45' depths as the bigger sets rolled in. Vis has 12-15' at the surface and little less at depth, it was dark under the kelp at times. Temp was 50 degrees.
The entrance/exit was not easy today as timing was everything, but then again this is Salt Point! (see pic's below) This will be my last dive at this location due to the MLPA 2010 closures. I did this dive solo except for the local peanut gallery, and had great time. (see pic's below) I will never forget this place! John |

Re: Sonoma County Report
John,
North end of Fisk Mill Cove right? That spot is/was great in a north swell. Pulled the rabbit out the hat there before... but this swell is big... you've got a pair. Regards, Bruce |

Re: Sonoma County Report
Bruce, Horseshoe cove is @ the very north end of Salt Point. I might add that the last two pictures are of an area just north of Gerstle Cove, taken today scouting for new shore entrance/exits, and these would have been suicide today.
Alex, yes they go into effect on Jan 1 2010! John |

The North Central MLPA's go into effect Jan 1 2010. Great job John. I know one of these days you will find your two vermillion on one dive trip. Thanks for sharing as that area is one of my favorites to dive all along the CA coast. Very sad that the year is ending so soon. I will miss that area very much. 5 days left with a monster swell coming may have just sealed the deal on closing it out early. If I could have anything for Christmas it would have been to have one more dive at Chicken Cove. Oh well...

Re: Sonoma County Report
I just discovered that area of coastline during the ab tourney a few months back. Never saw so many fish. Figures I'd get to dive it only once before it's closed for good.
