koah speargun specs
I'm looking at getting the Koah euro in 120cm with 2 bands, i want it to be big enough with at least enough band power to shoot some pelagics but also use on the reef. Not looking for a gun completely used for blue water spearing just enough to where i could atleast get a good shot on a kingfish. Not sure if i should get 3 bands or 2 should be good enough to tackle a king
Thanks |

go with 130cm. Get a euro mech put in, 7mm shaft. two 16mm bands it be perfect.

Re: koah speargun specs
i don't want anything too big, i will be using it for shore dives as well as boat dives. so i want to use it in 15ft reefs also.

I think you need to consider a third band and step up to a 5/16 for that type of versatility. It would be best to speak with John and get his take on it. 561-309-4544.

Re: koah speargun specs
X2 on what kegan suggested. I wouldn't go bigger than a 7mm shaft if you're planning on using it on the reef for snapper and hogs. Any bigger of a shaft and you have the risk of tearing up smaller fish.

The 130 wont be much bigger, but the added range and power is a plus. If your set on the 120, I still advise for the Euro mech. Spring steel shafts will rust but wont bend when that grouper rocks up. They are also cheaper then the stainless. I also dont advise slip tips on reef, that will get expensive quickly. Also if you want 5/16 shaft 3 bands. Your not talking euro anymore.

Re: koah speargun specs
I think what I'll end up doing is get the 120 with 2 bands but buy an extra band to put on if im going for a boat dive. But I feel 130cm plus Is strictly blue water but thats just my opinion. I'll look into it though. Thanks

Re: koah speargun specs
I just bought the 57" rear plus with 5/16 shaft and 3 bands. Unbelievable gun. You will not be disappointed with a Koah. I got it for light pelagic and reef diving. I am pleased with the size and maneuverability. I like the euro style gun but I feel like the rear plus is a sturdier frame. Call John. He is a great guy and will help you make some decisions based on your type of hunting.

Hey Bugman, I'd be interested in your decision and your results. I'm thinking Koah too for all the same applications. Free dive (pelagic) and bubble box the reef.

Re: koah speargun specs
probably getting a 120 with 2 bands since i've seen many videos of people shooting kings with just 2 bands. Not getting it anytime soon still need to make the $$$

Re: koah speargun specs
When your ready I'm glad to help out ... took one of my 130's out to take a bunch of shots at the mess of muttons that are running through right now to see if any other small improvements could be made. Shot after shot, the gun is dialed in. Right ballast, balance, shaft and band length. Its my new favorite gun

Re: koah speargun specs
Here is some vid of the 110 euro with 2 bands. It is the older model... the newer ones are even better IMO.
https://vimeo.com/40975360 The 130 w/2 bands is very versatile (reef fish or pelagic).
