Scallop reports?

Taking the kids out scalloping on Saturday - anyone have any scallop reports for Bayport / Homosassa?

Re: Scallop reports?

Heard Bayport/Homosassa was very slow for scallops this season. Anclote had plenty but I think that area is closed now.

Re: Scallop reports?

Thanks Kevin! Surprising that Homosassa is slow again after the dismal year last year that I was understanding was mostly due to high rainfall.

We saw a bunch of scallops off Fred Howard Park on Saturday, so we were excited about the prospect of going up to Homosassa.

Bummer - let me know if anyone heard anything about going deeper or whatever. Thanks for the report!

Re: Scallop reports?

I went twice this year, most recently about a month ago. Left out of Hernando Beach and headed North. Stayed mid way between the Bayport and Chassahowitzka channels. Limited out both times within 2 hours in anywhere from 5-7ft of water.

Have heard good reports as well Tyson. Weather should be good. Will be a fun day on the water with the family. I'm sure you will get plenty.

Re: Scallop reports?

Thanks for the feedback everyone - on Saturday 9/5 we ended up getting almost 5 gallons with 147 scallops. They were mostly good size, being late in the season.

The best places we stopped were in ~7 ft in areas of very light / patchy grass. The thick grass we checked out had a few, but not the numbers. We were pretty even with Chassahowitzka.

We got out early, at the Hernando Beach ramp before sunrise, and it was pretty busy already... Plenty of parking still but front lot was 1/2 full and trailers were coming fast.

Not many boats out there at all when we arrived, but towards noon it started look like a Boaters for Trump rally

Kids and adults all had a great time, and we ate all 147 that night.

Jerk seared scallops over fettuccine primavera, and scallop scampi on the half shell:

Awesome, Tyson! Any of the numbers I gave you pan out, or did you just sort of wing it?
