Geeze that's a small boat to be taking offshore....you guys ARE crazy! Will you be my hero? Haha, seriously....is it just because a bigger boat is more difficult to shore launch in remote locations?

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz
We use boats of this size to beach launch, and to tow into places that are 4 wheel drive only!
We go up to 50 miles offshore at times when the weather is OK, usually two boats at a time! |

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz
A jewy? Isnt that called a "duh fish"? Whats up with the blue groper? Did you shoot him after you hand fed him? Lol, Just payin you out. Those blues are great eating, last time I was divin Flinda's in Brissy a big blue swam right up to me and I blasted it. All the Aussies payed me out but I didnt care, beautiful eating. We got a fish here called a sheepshead, stupid and easy to shoot but great eating.
You guys shoot some quality fish bro, is that Samson a record? You live anywhere near Ningaloo Reef? Last edited by El Grillo; 06-19-2009 at 11:31 PM. |

No, Mate, Samson get 25 to 30lbs more than that one! The Blue groper are real good eating here!, we are allowed one/day on this coast. They get to about 90lbs, but that is a real big one. |

Barry what is your best months for spearing over there on the West Coast? The footage of shooting the tuna with the reel gun is awesome!

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz
I vote for any month when Pickering is away working! Generally Feb to July, August, sept are often swelly, then we get nasty SSE winds for a few months. Its pretty rare we stuck at home for more than a few weekends in a row though.

Did you notice the Brand name on those Railgun Reels, the Barracuda brand is maufactured by Bluewater Freedivers of WA members! Those reels are designed to handle large Pelagics and are used throughout Australia. Combined with a good Railgun, nothing is safe! Most months have some good weather, but summer is to be avoided (not so many fish around and early strong sea breezes) |

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz
Love it when you update this thread, makes me want to travel to Perth!
By the way, is this what I think it is or am I seeing things? If it is, do you find that it helps much with finding fish? I have been thinking about something similar for my boat... |

Great for spotting fish even at speeds over 30 knots, many fish have been found while travelling between spots Many boats over here have a 1/2" thick clear lexan panel in the hull, best to have the shape moulded in when the boat is being built, but can be added after! |
