Re: Oil rigs
Can you think of anything in California that they allow you to do without charging or doesn't have so many regulations that it isn't worth doing anyways? Majority of Californians are uptight and live in instilled fear. That is why i try to stay on the water as much as possible.

Re: Oil rigs
Actually - You can dive rigs in California...Just have to cover a few grounds first...1 - Contact the owners of the rigs and make sure they know you would like to dive the rigs so they do not call Homeland Security when a vessel shows up...2 - Have at least 2 persons in the boat....Since you cannot anchor you need swap out on who dives first and second. Current is not a big deal since you are staying within the structure. Just be mindful of your depth and air...So many things to see and shoot you can lose track of both. Hope this helps...

Re: Oil rigs
Some charters do it all the time... its just easier to do it on a known charter... they know how to get permission and you don't have to manage your own boat.

Re: Oil rigs
Bash the south all you want Hollywood. We can dive rigs at will, and currently big business is in a mass exodus from your "awsome" state. Due to the BS that you put up with daily... I feel sorry you're so blind as to not see the S hole you live in for what it is! Back to the rigs... They are amazing structure and if you can get on them do it!

Re: Oil rigs
Gulf rigs have "fishing rights" written into the lease agreement boilerplate. OTOH being an asshole about "enforcing" it can get you or your boat damaged if diving on an "inhabited" rig. IF the working crew says no to a request to tie up or dive they usually have a good reason, often one that keeps you breathing. Just move off a few hundred yards to the next uninhabited rig.

Re: Oil rigs
I once dove a California oil rig with a dive charter. Had 100+foot viz and more scallops than you could shake a skyscraper at, if you could shake a skyscraper. Which is basically what the oil rig is. An underwater skyscraper covered in scallops.

Re: Oil rigs
I actually thought it was a pretty fair response to a troll. Accurate description of california from a political, economical, and sportsman's view. California is a beautiful, beautiful place with some of the best resources an outdoorsman could ask for, but politics (poly: meaning many; ticks: being those damn blood sucking insects) are ruining this place slowly but surely.

Re: Oil rigs
What is there to shoot on CA oil rigs? I wouldn't think there'd be too much there.
