Are West Palm Beach lobster and fish safe to eat?

Planing a trip to West Palm to dive for lobster and spearfish this weekend. I have read warning about eating fish in Algae effected areas. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Jim

Yes. Any water with Algae is coming from fresh water sources/rivers and it stays on the top of the water column and flows out to the ocean where it dilutes. The red tide on the West Coast is a non-player as well.

West Palm Beach and south from there is fine but once you go north of Jupiter, I would be a little bit concerned. The more offshore you go the better off you'll be but i would still keep and eye out if you're north of jupiter

What is that supposed to mean?
I was out on the west coast recently...TONS of dead fish floating on the top of the water, out past the sight of land, and it was hard to breath. That and the color of the water was WRONG! Made a couple drops anyway...Dead ledges ..went out further, water color changed, no dead fish floating..found fish.
You do what you want, but even Dolphin are dying from eating sick fish, I wouldn't eat any.

They said a dog died from swimming inthe St Lucie River last week. toxic algae. Amazing what we allow. The Governor cuts funding for the water management Districts for years and seems to get away with this.

This issue comes up repeatedly across Florida communications. This red tide and green algae stems from federal actions taken many years ago. There are several states who have the same issue. Corrective action will be required by the federal government, so folks should contact their representatives in Congress to get the ball rolling. I hate to say it but Senator Nelson who has been in Congress for many years but has never paid much attention to this serious issue in his state, could do much more to help us.

Red tide comes from the continental shelf of the Gulf of Mexico and has been recorded for centuries. The Okeechobee pollution may be what you are referring to. That dates back to the 1930s when the dykes were constructed. What causes the pollution is either farming runoff, sewage, or a combination of both.

It's not pollution, it's excess nutrients (primarily Phosphorus) that contributes to the algae blooms and more than likely exacerbates the red tide issue.

Pollution of some sort or sorts yes. Everytime you run your dishwasher, washing machine, shower and flush a toilet, that water has to go somewhere and this article shows that there could be some sewage/septic involvment.

You guys are getting off topic. Who has been in the water off of Palm Beach county recently and can give feedback on algae/red tide? Thanks
