Re: "Polyfoam" floatline?
Thanks for all the responses.
2fishin2 - I found cheaper prices as well, but I was mostly just curious if it worked acceptably well. Josh - Is there a noticeable loss or change in performance after it stretches? |

Maybe it is like dynamic climbing rope. Three falls and its time to trade it in. It works out to be a great, cheap line in the right circumstances. |

I am a climber and this statement about the dynamic ropes it is not true. The dynamic ropes are meant to mitigate the impact forces on the climbers body (and anchors) by means of stretching (to some extent). There is a maximum acepted value for this impact force to insure you don't break your back (to put it simple). The ropes need some time to recover, so consecutive factor 2 falling (unlikely scenario while climbing) makes each fall harder (higher impact force). The number of falls a rope is rated to is the number of consecutive falls under a certain scenario (same rope section, same weight dropped from a certain height above the anchor to guarantee factor 2 falls, etc.) before the maximum allowed impact force is reached. From then on the rope will still hold plenty of falls (will not break), but it will not behave as dynamically as desired. There are several figures to consider depending on the kind of rope (single, double or twin) but I know of no rope at all rated to only 3 falls. I recall the minimum number of consecutive factor 2 falls before it fails the test is 6 for single ropes. Mikel |
