Re: austrailia shooters

With the majority of the Australian coast either tropical or sub tropical the quality and diversity of spearfishing is great. But I have not spearfished out of Australia so I don'thave anything to compare it to.

In most states spearfishing with tanks is illegal. Even where it is not illegal the national spearfishing body and the vast majority of spearfishers frown heavily upon the practice. We have grown up with the challenge of breath hold diving and for us that is what makes it exciting and physically demanding. Taking fish in 100ft is quite an achievement when you are breathhold diving. Most senior club members would be able to take fish in 60ft without too much trouble. But this is common practice in many countries in Europe and in South Africa.

Different states have different licence requirements. I am familiar with New South Wales where we have only to purchase a fishing licence, the same as a line fisherman.
