Post Freshwater diver dies in Tennessee River

Last week, we had a muscle diver get killed while retreiving a log from the bottom of the lake. Say what?

The diver and friend were attempting to retreive an over 100 year old log from the river. The log was walnut, approx. 44" in diameter, approx. 30' long. It had been on the bottom of the river/lake system since the old days of floating logs downstream by the thousands. Of course, some broke loose and over time water logged and sank and rested on the bottom. Occasionally when these old logs are found, they can be sold for pretty good money.

The diver went down and attached lines to the log and attempted to raise the log with a winch on the boat. The boat, about a 20 footer, capsized, the diver was crushed by the boat when it hit him in the chest and pinned him to the bottom. Rescuers finally brought him up, but he was already dead. They started CPR, flew him to Vanderbilt but were unable to revive him.

You can read the story in the Tennesseean newspaper, although it is full of errors on the story. He was using a hooka, lots of muscle divers do around here.

Tennessee Muscle divers supply

Freshwater diver dies in Tennessee River
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JFG, I used to get a catalog from a working divers supply mailorder place in Tenn. They had some great prices on often times hard to find items. They supplied muscle divers and specialized in their items. I wonder if they are still in business, I can't even remember their name, but I sure would like to be on their mail list if they are still in business.
