booties
What type of booties have you guys found to work well and be durable for you? I have used my regulsr dive fins up until now I just received a pair of Gara 3000 as an early birthday gift but my regular dive booties do not fit into them I wear a size 11 and the fins are size 13 but they still will not fit into the fin pocket.
Thanks for you input,

Re: booties
i've got some of those ninja-toe looking booties that surfers use (with the separate big toe in the boot). Got mine at a surf shop. they've gone over rocks, been wet for days on end, have been used several times and are still pretty good. I like 'em.

Re: booties
Deep Sea 3 mm booties. I crawl all over the rocks and everything in these things, and i have the same fins, and they're awesome. super warm and super durable.

Re: booties
I will second the deep sea 3mm booties. Got mine a sport chalet. They are pretty cheap and last a while.

Re: booties
I like my JMJ botties, 4mm or 6 mm, but I haven't tested them much over rocks.

Re: booties
Well they lasted me a few months of hiking up and down cliffs in PV. A few months is good enough for me. Especially for a $15 pair of booties.

Re: booties
seriously. I paid $16 for them, and we do nothing but climb on the rocks out here to get to spots, and mine don't have a single tear in them. you'd be hard pressed to get me to use anything else.

Re: booties
I use Akona tall socks. In my Millennium fins for freediving. Would not recommend walking any distance in them. http://www.akona.com/product.php?product_id=102
Scuba is different. I use a soft sole 3mil bootie |

Re: booties
I've used different types but learned a great trick from one of the guys in florida. I put a small dab of shoe goo on the heel and ball of the sock and build it up. It works fantastic and I do a LOT of shore diving and it keeps them from getting torn up on the reef.
Jeff I'm guessing you are using scuba boots for your old heel strap fins? If that's the case you are going to have to get a sock like everyone is talking about. It's like a super thin version of dive booties. Anything like a small rock the size of a pea will make its presence known as you walk along in them .

Re: booties
I recently bought some Argos 4mm socks. Very nice. They have a R & L that fit better in the fin and feel better too. They are pricey though. I only got them because I lost my old ones, cheap Mares. The 15 dollar booties are fine but I suggest putting a little Shoe Goo on the bottom to make them more durable on the rocky walks. Mine were still in great shape after a year, untill they walked off themselves.

Re: booties
DarenDeath is right the Argos 4 mil are the best. Wallins has them.. perfect for freediving especially if you have an odd foot size in your footpocket. You know, sometimes a 2 or 3 mil sock is too small and there is a small amount of movement in the pocket, even with fixipoms. Ive heard of some hunters that hunt yellowtail that have had that problem and sometimes it makes a squeaking noise and voom, no more yellowtail. The bottom on the Argos are reinforced with a material similar to kevlar and can take a serious beating. Serious northcoast hunters are now using them even when walking cliffs to and from the put-ins.
