Problem was the extremities, I had holes on my gloves. I have a real winter suit, 7 mm, but to weight it is a pain, it takes 20-22 lb with a thick hood. Perhaps i'll try it again. I didn't say I stayed 2 hours, maybe 30-40 minutes max, with intervals on the rocks to warm my hands. Outside it was a nice day by the way. |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
Yeah, well the day was nice and sunny, no wind, no waves, only cold water. With fish and good vis, that would have been perfect.
That inlet is the nicest of New jersey, it has been made for us, almost. I praised Gov. Christie for not ruining it with casinos and giant wheels. |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
I did it again yesterday Sunday at high tide 10:30 AM-12:30. No waves but strong current and still lots of whitish stuff in suspension. Viz was improved compared to 2 weeks ago, I'd say 4-5ft in shallow water. At 15-20ft it was gloomy and viz was no better ~ 5ft. There is still a long way to go to the viz we had last April.
Somebody mentioned one Seal, a lots of birds, so they must be there for something, but I could not see anything, not even a clam. Water was even colder than 2 weeks ago but my 5mm open suit did a perfect job, only the extremities hurt, even with brand new 7mm gloves with no holes, the fingers still hurt. |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
No rush, I went today at high tide, in Barnegat Inlet as usual and saw no fish no crabs nothing. And no clams and mussels on the rocks. Water was as cold as last month. Compared to last April 2017, visibility is not as good. But during all this Winter it was not as good as Nov. and Dec. 2016 anyways.
Viz was perhaps 10ft-16ft but that's plenty good enough to hunt Togs. I couldn't see anything under the rocks and during the few deeper dives I did, around 20-25 ft. Just bare bottom. I guess water is still abnormally cold. |

It was from about 10:30 AM to noon after which I agree the ebb flow degraded the viz. But it is not garbage viz in my opinion. I got some video records. It's always worse than visually but maybe i'll make a video out of it. Did you see something interesting beside the dirt ? |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
I hit squan Saturday little after slack tide. It filled in completely with sand. At low tide you could walk to the Jacks. Nothing to see but mussels and your breath. Vis varied from 7 feet to 0ft. I'm not getting back in until we hit the high 40s water temp. Hopefully that's early April.

Re: Daily Vis report thread
Correction : I am reviewing my videos and for the first time ever, my camera recorded something I didn't see : a small Tog zipping in front of me. Probably the camera was looking slightly above my line of sight, or my brain was frozen.
I tried to delete that, I was reviewing a video clip from last year. Ignore. I saw no Fish, No togs, nothing. Last edited by Ric; 03-19-2018 at 10:45 AM. |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
The bay water was clean. If you went that late you got some clean outgoing water. It sucked at 930. Water was balls cold. I aint going back till april I didnt see any fish but wasnt looking to hard or diveing in fishy spots. Viz sucked and my hands were numb. Did a quick drift back and done.
