Gladiator 100 & 120 rollerguns
Hi guys! It's been a while of my last threads here and I thought maybe it's time to put few photos.
These are 100 and 120 invert rollers, shafts 130/8 and 150/8,5. |

Re: Gladiator 100 & 120 rollerguns
Very nice. Ever thought of making a video, say a stop motion video, of a gun being cut out on the woodworking machines showing the various tool passes and milling out of the job (the item being created)?

Amazing work! Do you use a pattern mill or is this all router work?

Re: Gladiator 100 & 120 rollerguns
All is router work, I use pattern only when opening side holes for line release and trigger mechanism pins. Everything is made in two stages, first opening pockets in the wood and then filled with epoxy resin and milled carbon fiber mixture. Next is rough and fine cnc router pass, then opening final pockets.

Re: Gladiator 100 & 120 rollerguns
I was just thinking of a camera sitting on a tripod taking sequential shots from a "fly on the wall" point of view. People seeing how much work and effort go into making a high class finish, painstaking attention to the smallest detail type of gun would not even think to quibble about the price of such magnificent guns as you create.

Many comments are 'just need to push button, cnc will do the rest', but in fact that's just small part of process. It's a long way from buying wood, making blanks, sort and combine them by weight, over preparing block for cnc machine, machining body and handle, few epoxy resin coating with sanding between, carbon work if needed, glueing all metal parts to fine sanding, clear coating and putting all together before balancing and delivery. And of course cad design, but it's not always needed if making something what was already made before. |

Re: Gladiator 100 & 120 rollerguns
For someone who has built a speargun it would be very difficult to judge the amount of work that goes into making a gun, even if you use CNC.
CNC is a great tool, but it is just a tool to help with part of the process. And the time you save on using planers, rasps, etc... you have to invest it in LEARNING how to program, LEARNING the tricks of your particular machine, STUDYING general machining basis, PLANING your machining steps, etc... And I am pretty sure there have been (and maybe still happen on ocassion) some screw ups along the way. Thrassed blanks, broken tooling, etc. CNC helps in getting consistent results and repeteability... but that's about it. GPSEARGUNS, Did you build your router table or you bought an of-the-shelf unit? BTW, I have gathered all the parts to put together a CNC router with a friend of mine (lots of mone invested, just not enough time) but I am affraid it will not be long enough to do the full length of the gun at once. And indexing the damn thing and keeping it aligned could mean some problems in the long run.... |

It was challenge for me to make it all from the scratch, but orders which I taken make me buy chinese 1218 router. It works fine after complete rewiring - completely wrong wired on inverter and two motors. |
