Even my mask groans about my technique

Mask groan. The squeaky noise you get when air is slipping out of your mask. It's a long standing pain in my rear end, and I'm BAD at it.

I was noticing this recently. I am using a standard scuba mask, because it has perscription lenses in it. When I am at depth I squeak and groan like a leaky old pump. The only way I can stop the noise is to maintain a negative pressure on my nose; like trying to inhale against the mask. It is distracting and a little tiring.

Do any of you have advice on combatting mask groan? Would a low volume mask help to combat this issue?

Cheers,
Mike

I've never had that but I'd say try a low volume mask, get the aqua lung sphera it's extremely low volume And only like 30 bucks.

The lower the volume the more finicky the seal is. Try the Omer Alien, its very forgiving and very low volume as well. The combination of a lower volume and becoming more experienced will minimize those sounds. They happen to me now and then and I think "well now Ive scared every fish for a hundred yards away".

Thanks guys, I'll look into a lower volume mask, but I expect I'll have to make an effort to not breath out my nose as well. I've noticed I slowly leak air out my nose while I dive...

try tigntening the mask up a little...the silicone skirt will be tighter but there wont be a negative pressure to annoy you. essentially when your sucking in the air in your mask to stop the leaking its just tightening the mask up... so tighten it by the strap and keep it equalized like normal.
