Offshore Report 8-15-08
Ran offshore to the 43 on the Rampage out of Dana Point.
This was primarily a H&L trip, but we got some diving in. Captain Larry, was nice enough to let us jump a few. Quite a few paddies out there. Almost all are holding dodo and YT. Water temp was around 74 and visibility was great ~80'+. Only one YT was speared, but many more shots were missed. The first paddie of the day was the best, right at grey light. It was holding YT, Dodo, and YFT. We ended up getting 6 YFT, 4 dodo, and 1 YT. This paddie probably could have produced many more fish. However, this savage beast knot-head sealion showed up and spooked everything. We spent the rest of the day searching, fishing, and hopping paddies. The fish were primarily lock-jawed. Probably because of the full moon conditions. We got the albies from under a porpoise school. Total fish count for the day was 6 YFT (Good grade, 25-30lbs) 4 DODO (Doritos) 2 ALBIES (Rats, around 8-10lbs) 2 YT (1 nice one and a rat) 1 sealion (released) Martin Last edited by Polystigma; 08-16-2008 at 01:45 AM. |

Great report, thnx Martin.
Fish is also showing up south (302/371/425). Looks like a good weekend if one can deal with the parking lot offshore. |

Good work! Did you get a visual on the yellowfin in the water, or did they come up hook & line?

Re: Offshore Report 8-15-08
The yellowfin were caught on H&L. We started chumming the paddie with live bait. So they must have decided to come up and have a look.
That paddie was stacked! Only fish of the trip that was speared was a small YT off a paddie. No tuna were spotted while in the water, only YT and dodo. It was strange... some paddies held rat YT, while others held nice ones (20-25lbs). |
