Re: Daily Vis report thread
Got in yesterday... Tog are here in decent numbers. Mostly on the smaller side still but more than I expected this early. Go get a few when you get a chance.

Re: Daily Vis report thread
Barney was trash Saturday, I got in figuring i might be able to make it work, but it was 0 on the surface and at 10+ even with a light it was impossible.
Sunday looked no better and the forecast for wind and swell this week has me thinking that Spring Tautog is just not going to happen. Looks like were getting overhead waves for several days with ripping 30+ wind blowing along the coast. We did manage a keeper bass on rod and reel in the bay soaking blood worms on a basic rig. |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
Everyone else gets a tog season and we get none in nj. At least as divers. Its to cold first couple weeks then the vis goes to shiz the last couple weeks. Vis comes back and there are fat tog galore and its closed. Good thing i dont care much for eating tog. But still.....same shiz every year.

Why cant they extend the season 2 weeks and drop the limit to one fish? Or start it 2 weeks later and actually allow us an opportunity to harvest some fish. It is horse shit. If I am lucky i get 2 dives in April with a shot at fish. Looking at the swell and wind projections we will be lucky to get another shot before the season closes until August. Im ****ing pissed. |

Re: Daily Vis report thread
In this case divers as a whole are such a minority of recreational tog fishing that nobody is factoring them in with regards to season timing much less people only using one breath to get them. Otherwise recreational Tog has an eight month long season that just unfortunately doesn't overlap with our very specific conditions of how we want to take them. Sucks but doesn't really drive me nuts when I think about managers trying to set season dates.
The commercial Tog season closes the day after our season closes then reopens like a month later than ours and its on a qouta as well. At least you know nobody is legally mugging them while your not allowed to take a single one... Just sayin

Re: Daily Vis report thread
Yeah I hear you... me too. It's frustrating with the vis like this and the clock ticking down on Tog. I put off getting in on few good vis days waiting for a little extra warm up and now I'm regretting it looking at the current forecast. At least I got one good dive in before this streak of garbage.
On side rant... I'm just old enough to have seen Tog numbers decline in my lifetime. I also saw some of the shenanigans that went on rampantly. It baffled me that it took so long to get real attention. It worried me a fair bit even then as an uninformed kid because I was fishing for Bass that were in really bad shape while at the same time listening to my grandfather (fishing partner) detailing his experience of fishing them before and then witnessing the Bass stock crash. So I looked at Tog like damn they seem next to crash even with zero information beyond what I could personally see. I guess it''s why I tend to be more tolerant than most of the Tog inconvenience even if diving is the only way I take them these days. On flip side I really miss hunting them in May as it was my favorite time to shoot them. Stupid clear water and hordes of lively Tog in even the shallowest stuff made it a ton of fun. Putting a stinger of them together that time of yr never got old.
