Great freediving day in Bimini
wife and I had a great day freediving in Bimini over the weekend. We keep a small boat overthere and when the weather is good we use it. Sat. was great weather for freediving got about 30 lobster in about an hour several hog fish and capped off the day with a freedive with wild dolphines. If any of you get a chance try Bimini.

It looks like you have a little slice of heaven there in Bimini. Looking at those tails on the grill is making me hungry. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Awesome. Hey how hard is it to keep a boat over there? Thought about that myself.
From that picture, you have everything any man could want. Pura vida, amigo. |

Re: Great freediving day in Bimini
guys thanks it was a littleslice of heaven. Ed thx for all the advice prior to getting the boat there. As for keeping a boat there, its really easy we know a guy there who will pull your boat out and look after for you for 100 a month. You need to have someone there looking after for you as they have a theft problem(ie stolen boats and motors). Otherwise its perfect, clearwater, lots of ledges and no jet ski's.....

Romulus:
I would consider pulling the prop off the engine/engines when you are not there and the boat is being looked after if it is out of the water. When I was running a dive boat down in Exuma we also rented Boston Whalers and stored boats like yours for people who would come down and use them when they could. We had a very large and ongoing problem with the props being stolen off the engines. Just something to think about. Very glad my advice helped. Sometimes it is almost criminal how great the freediving can be over there. Enjoy it to the fullest, you are one of the lucky few. |

You are probably referring to the "Bikini Atoll" one the first "live" nuclear proving grounds. I think it somewhere in the Pacific and has given its namesake to the popular female swimwear Bimini is the bahamian island closest to the U.S. and it's on the western edge of the Great Bahama Bank.

Re: Great freediving day in Bimini
I want to make a run over there in the mid-summer time, when it is safest to do so in my boat.... I wonder how much more a hassle it is with the need now for a passport?
I was a bit miffed last year finding out that even to go over for the day with my small boat I would have to pay as much POC fee as some millionaire with a 35ft Bertram..... Sure looks like fun though.. How much do you have to pay for a room over there?? Christof
