Incredible, the cuda in that pic was caught off Japan (okinawa). I guess the radiation just made them grow that big, isn't that the theory behind Godzilla

Re: Barracuda?

I lost a NICE fat yellow jack to one a week or so ago. had it on my stringer, turned around and saw myself pulling a 5.5' cuda instead of my dead fish. Wanted to kill it, but didn't want to risk losing a shaft on a fish I knew I wouldn't eat. My buddy had one bite off the blade from his omer footpocket while he was fighting an AJ he speared.

Re: Barracuda?

probably one of the stupidest spearfishing related things i've done was shooting this fish. I didn't have a knife on me or a floatline or reel. Fortunately the shot hit his spine and all it could do was snap with its jaws lol.

I would agree... I've done a lot of graphic design work, and that picture does not look very legitimate for many reasons (though then again, this could be due to the poor photo quality), and plus it would be a very easy picture to fake.

Remember guys, to best fake a picture, start out working with a large high resolution, and then after you are done, shrink it down and degrade the image quality to hide any flaws, and to blame any discrepancies on!

Re: Barracuda?

i remember when i was little I would always see cudas of all sizes when i'd go snorkeling off elliot in like 20ft, long before I started spearing. Now I rarely see them except on deep wrecks and a couple specific deep spots.

Re: Barracuda?

I will say this... if you are not experience shooter, don't mess with them but I have friends that have not mercy with them, they eat them and assure taste excellent,I've shot them but gave them to my friend he loves them..

PD: The fact that I've shot them does not make me a "bad ass" shooter ..

If you cant find cuda this time of year of in South Florida you are not diving in the ocean. They are everywhere. Find a wreck & you'll find cuda.

But don't shoot them. Patrick would starve.

Re: Barracuda?

I've shot a couple freediving. The first one was about 3.5' and tasted great. easy to clean and nice white meat. The next weekend I get a 4' one. I think great but when I fillet him the meats kind of grey and taste like mud. So I'll stick to the smaller ones. they do make a test for cig. called cigucheck. the jaws come out nice see my avatar.
