Thumperfish-
Glad you guys are enjoying 'em. The north coast looking stuff is up along the West Coast of Vancouver Island this last Summer... that coastline and those fjords might be the ultimate boating adventure; just beyond unbelievable? The fishing was off the charts, but the only diving I saw was a commercial Radon diving geoducks in Puget Sound one day when we had the boat out? I heard that there's more Radons up there; at one point the Port Townsend yard was cranking 'em out for the various Indian tribes up there; who used them to commercially fish? Always funny to me where these dive boats show up....Once you get onto VI, most of the boats are either commercial grade aluminum, or the big RHIBS that they blast the tourists around in. Certainly lots to see up there off a boat, it was a fantastic trip. |

Skiff-
Our boat is a 16' Radoncraft Bahia built by Davis in morro bay. The hull is a 95 and the cabin was added years later with a new engine. We are getting about 4.25 mpg crusing at 20 kts. From what the previous owner told us the hull weighed 1500lb and the motor and cabin together add 800lbs so we are probably around 2500 with fuel. It's fun to see how everyone else handled the cabins on little boats. Looks like an epic trip you had, put that one on the bucket list. |

My Dad (Bill Anderson) and I put the cabin on your boat when Wayne owned it, I think it was 2005 or 2006. Back then the "Rebel" had a 90 hp Evinrude 2-smoke, that was a fun project. |

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
Awesome thread we've got going here. Radons are hands down in my opinion the best boat around for the sb channel. Designed specifically as a commercial dive platform for abalone and sea urchin.
I dive on 32'x10' w/ a 500 hp cummins cta and v-drive. Ultra stable and surfs down swell very well. We packed on 3,400 lbs from Rosa on a day trip and came in at 18 kts still. Testament right there Hey Jeff, Hows the new boat treating you? I still haven't seen it out at the islands, where you been hiding? Here's a couple pics, first 2 are us and the other 2 are a buddys boat. The bigger one in the middle of the last pic is a 36' Wilson another great boat bear with me on the pics, im not good at this stuff |

Skiff - Jeff, great pics as always, you know i definitely enjoy seeing the adventures you have on your Radon. Ed and Bill did amazing work on your boat - best smaller Radon out there IMO. |

Skiff,
This might be one of the coolest boating shots I have ever seen! I would love to take my 17' Anderson on a trip like this. MINI COMMERCIAL BOATS UNITE! |

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
I don't know if my boat would qualify as a Radon -- it's a Radoncraft, or a Davis. It's one of the 26' hulls that, as I understand it, were part of some sort of bankruptcy or something along those lines.
She's a 1991 hull, diesel powered, and has a lot of bells and whistles; however, she's not pretty! Features: 26' Custom Flybridge – full walk around Volvo 235 Diesel Engine Duo-prop outdrive Large bow pulpit with toe rail Fiberglass swim step Furuno Radar GPS chart plotter with map cartridges for San Diego & Southern CA Second station Furuno GPS Commercial grade Simrad 50/200 color CRT fishfinder Engine driven compressor refrigerated fish hold Robertson auto pilot Two VHF radios & external speakers Heart Interface Freedom Marine 20 battery charger/110v inverter Link charge/condition battery monitor Microwave 5 scoop divided fiberglass bait tank Main & back-up bait pumps Foward plumbed bait well Power hydraulic steering Power anchor windlass/winch Fully enclosed stand-up head Internal plumbed engine flush-out Wash down pump 3 ea. Bilge pumps (2 automatic) High water alarms Micro Commander electronic shift/throttle Hard top with eisenglass enclosure Deck flood lights and docking light Stainless rocket launcher rod holders (numerous) Raised self-draining flush deck (no engine box) & stainless railing Fish cleaning station Outriggers & downrigger Custom painted galvanized trailer: electric/hydraulic brake system with disc brakes and new stainless calipers & brake lines Whew! Let's just say that we have a lot of fun with her, when we're able to get on the water. A few photos from our exploits, attached. |
