The ride out was nasty. It was that 1' occasional 2' mixed chop that is 100% unpredictable. Speed ranged from 24 to 54 with the occasional prop barks. One of you all in a walkaround were likely racing me for the same spot.

Anyways, about 25 miles out of Hurricane pass, surface 68F, bottom 64F in 75 fsw. Vis wasn't quite top to bottom but you could see the bottom contrast about ten feet down the line and horizontal was at least 40 to 50.

From initial touchdown very little life except for monster Gags everywhere, one was literally longer than my 48" Ocean Rhino. I nailed a 22" hog about 15' away and could see the outlines of many more large ones 30-45 feet away. I loosened the drag on the reel, fed some line off, had 3 bands set for an AJ and held over about a foot on a hog at 25-30'. The shot was well placed but obviously broadcasted at that range and he jolted just enough to miss the arching shaft (many a gag has been nailed by this gun at that range). Lots of smaller reds and then one that was probably legal. I found some protein on the bottom and hand fed the red while filming him and he in turned followed us the remainder of the dive and the next.

No sherpas, cudas, sharks, macks, cobias, goliaths or even AJs (primary target). Went home with one ok sized hog fish and 12GB of video, works for me. Following seas home, gotta love it.

Saw a sea turtle, octopus, sherpa , big lion fish and lots of groupers.

CONDENSED:
68-64F
Vis 40-60
70-75 fsw

Back to working on the boat.

Hopefully we can go to that exact spot next Monday so I can clean up the lionfish and maybe find some more hogs. But some AJ sure would be nice - I'm all out!

BTW- lionfish are awesome to eat, and all need to be eradicated!

Dove 45 Ft NW of Anclote on Tuesday. Vis was 30 vertical and 15-20ft horizontal not many hogs. The boat got about 12 between 4 shooters but not any nice ones. Plenty of Gags hanging around. Got a couple of nice AJ's in the 30 and 50lb range off the ledge. Temp was 70 surface and 68 on bottom.

Wow. I've never seen that big of Gags in 75'. That's special.

Agree. Whatever I learned about fish last year has not applied this year.

THAT'S the truth - that damn triggerfish I saw last Monday was insanely big compared to any I've ever seen in these waters.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

4-4:
Blackthorne, could make out bottom contrast from surface, upside down hull easily visible from 10' down. Let's call it 70 vertical and 60-70 horizontal on the vis. Water 68F top and bottom.

Mangos, gags, permits, AJs, and two Bulls, one 10'. Both well behaved and made several curious passes.

Ledge 60' water, almost top to bottom. 40 horizontal. Surface 72 and bottom 68F with incoming tide. EPIC huge gags, lost a red when the tip didn't extend, couple AJs 30-36".

Gorgeous day, absolutely flat.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Homosassa 4/4

Hit Rocks in 40ft Viz top to bottom. Temp 73 top 71 bottom
Gags everywhere some nice hogs mangos and sheeps

Bounced Rocks in 30-35 ft the rest the day with varied viz from 10 to 30 hazy to Clear depending from spot to spot. More monster gags and hogs mangs and sheeps.

Finish the day with 4 limits of Solid male hogs from 16-22 inches and quite a few nice mangs and jumbo sheeps.

Great day on the water with 2ft or less.

We shoot jacks all the time with one band, you may need a shorter, poppier band.
I shot the one in my avatar with one band, 1/4ing angle and complete pass through. with three shafts.
Glad you guys are getting out!

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Dove off Anna Maria yesterday 4-4-15. Top to bottom viz at 45ft. Horizontal viz was about 30ft at 1st site. Second site was a little cloudy on the incoming tide. Bottom temp - 68 degrees. Lots of hog & mangrove snapper to be had. Saw a few small red and gag grouper.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Yesterday out of Sarasota top to bottom 40fsw. Couple of big gags showing off during the closed shot some mangs sheeps and a hog. Bounced a shaft off a decent king. The RA 90 wasn't enough and I couldn't close the gap.
