Colorado spearfishing suggestions
Looking for anyone's opinion that has been to one of these places. I'm kicking around going to Twin Lakes, Blue Mesa, Taylor Lake, or Lake McConaughy this weekend. I'm just looking to get in the water and spear anything. I know you can only spear pike and carp in the colorado lakes and you can spear game fish in lake mcconaughy. I am more concerned with having good viz and getting to spear. I really want this to be an enjoyable time because i'm taking a buddy who has never done it and I don't want poor viz to ruin it for him. I'm located in colorado springs and I'm trying to keep the drive to no more than 4 hours. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Re: Colorado spearfishing suggestions
Vis has been clearing up in western Colorado finally. Been unseasonably wet this year and run off is muddying up the waters. I wish some of us could come up with a thread for Colorado vis like the utah boys did. Good luck in your venture, and please post a trip report.

Re: Colorado spearfishing suggestions
This post is kind of late but I ended up going to lake mcconaughy and it was terrible. The visibility was about 2 feet in most areas and only saw a couple of fish but they stayed right outside of the visibility and I only caught a glimpse of their tail as they swam off. We dove in several spots but we didn't know where to go and we had no boat so we just randomly picked spots that we thought might work. It's never a bad time being in the water but the conditions were pretty bad. This was my first time ever going to Lake Mac so I am probably not tracking on the best spots to go. Hope this helps!

Anyone been to/going to twin lakes or blue mesa? I would like to go there sometime this week and check them out. If so, how was the viz and what is the water temp this time of year like? Also, if anyone is interested in going along I could use a dive partner!

I have dove twin lakes. Got this bad boy there!
Seriously though, it was cold! That and the altitude made me not want to dive there for fun. Plus down at 80', vis was zero.

Not my truck, but the owner initially was chasing fish... By driving onto the ice to go ice fishing. The only thing I caught was a bunch of empty beer bottles that fell out

Rifle is pretty cool. Definitely warm water diving. Viz had been crappy, but should be clearing now that the runoff has finally quit.

Re: Colorado spearfishing suggestions
Weather threatened to rain all day, didn't hit rifle. Went to Harvey gap instead from shore. Gathered up about 100-130 JUMBO craw dads in water ranging from 5-30' with 6' viz. temps were warm, pushing 70 I'd guess. DOW visited told me I was legal to harvest craw dads, but not spear pike (I knew that) and that they put tiger musky in to kill the northern pike, that's why I couldn't spear pike. Make sense to any of you guys?
