Re: DEEP diving, Rough Conditions and GIANT Fish

Pretty video...watching you guys play with egg sacs and have play time with the fishes is fun.

Was your diver was at least out of the path of the spear

PS That black spot up top is your divers snorkel, you can see him in the frames before and after you shooting that fish from the surface..

Looks pretty close here too...for reference, that black shadow in the top middle of this photo is your diver

It's legal in federal waters, same as permit.

Re: triple tail
Finally some clarification! So triple tail can be speared in federal waters in the gulf? I.e. out of Destin?

When I got out in federal waters with my old man who is an H&L guy he is always swearing I can't spear them (I know it is illegal in state waters)...

Yes triple tail are legal in federal waters, you just can't stop in state waters, even for a second when coming back in with speared triple tail. Even then, you still have a chance of getting pulled over by a young fwc officer that doesn't know all the laws yet...

Once I was fishing (hook and line) right off the beach for cobia (in a boat). There was a strong east wind a couple days prior and lots of sargasum weed in the water. Anyways I spot a triple tail in a weed patch that is MASSIVE!!! , if I had to guess probably 15 pounds. I pitched a bait at him and he just dove down and disappeared. Now if I would have hooked him, how do I get that fish in the boat if I don't have a landing net, but I got a gaff, and no speargun in the boat? Yea...

Re: DEEP diving, Rough Conditions and GIANT Fish

The South Atlantic does not regulate triple tail in federal waters. However, in the absence of federal regulations state rule can apply, if the state wishes to extend those rules into federal waters. At least that is my understanding. I am not sure the state of Florida has extended those rules for triple tail, as it has done for marine life (tropical fish) and snook.
I think snapper mangler might be correct -- don't stop in state waters on the way in and if you get stopped by a new officer, well who knows.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when you were pointing a loaded gun at your friend then shooting right by him. Your lucky you didn't kill him or severely injure him.
