Power Recommendation for 19 Outrage II
Ive just finished restoring a 19ft 1995 Boston Whaler Outrage II. Now I need to power the thing. I'm looking to put on a lightweight four stroke. I'll probably buy something used. I'll be running 30-50 miles to the canyon. What HP could I get away with. I'd like a Suzuki df140, but could I get away with a 115? Would the difference be noticeable? For fuel economy, would it be better to run a larger motor at lower rpm or a smaller motor? Any advice would be appreciated. The rated max hp is 150 and the min is 115.

Re: Power Recommendation for 19 Outrage II
I own a 17ft outrage and have a 115 suzuki on it, which is perfect for my boat. For a 19ft outrage I would definitely go with the 140. You will want the extra power and i feel it is better to run at lower rps, then continuously pushing a smaller motor.

Thanks. That was sorta what i was thinking. I found a good 115 and was hoping it would be enough.. Its just tough to find used fourstrokes for sale.

Re: Power Recommendation for 19 Outrage II
I just re powered my 19ft Cape Horn with a 150 hp Merc 4 stroke. It pushes it about
38 knts with the regular 3 person & freediving/rod & reel gear. We had 2 19ft whalers where i work. If i remember correctly, they were powered by 150's also. we loaded them up with guys and gear, and they planed off fine. |
