Moving to Bali. Any Tips?
Hey guys,
I am moving to Bali at the start of the new year. I just started spearing in San Diego, Ca this summer. I was hoping to receive some advise on spearing in Indonesia. I heard there are no real regulations, but I just wanted to clarify. I consider myself a waterman and truly care about the ocean and the animals in it. Was hoping someone could fill me in on what I should and should not be taking shots at. Thanks! |

Get to know Jon (Behslayer on Spearboard), maker of Ulusub spearguns, who lives in those parts. He'll steer you right. Get you on some surf spots, too.

Re: Moving to Bali. Any Tips?
There might be regulations but not a lot of people follow them, enforce them or even know about them. You have to regulate yourself (karma). You'll see a lot of stuff that will just make you cringe, that's for sure. Just use your best judgement. It's just common sense stuff anyways. Bali is weird and can be hit or miss. But there are definitely fish here in the right seasons, tides and moon phases. Going off island gets even better.

Re: Moving to Bali. Any Tips?
Thanks for the advise! I plan on island hoping as much as possible. Heard that is the only way to dodge all the yuppies in Kuta and Bali in General for that matter. I'm sure the questions will keep coming as I near my arrival. Thanks again!

Actually last time I talked to Sal, he was opening up a fishing store somewhere in Bali with his brother Gm (pronounced Jim, They have some interesting parents). I'm not sure where it is but I'll see if I can find out some info about it or find a website for it and post it up here. Good luck in Bali.
