DAN insurance plan for freedivers?

Was wondering if any freedivers have a plan with them? Do they cover freedivers?

I have had Dan for years and they have been great. I cut my hand bad in Baja a few years ago and needed follow up when i returned to States also. They gave advice and covered bills.

Ditto! Have it have not used it. Many dive boats require insurance.

Re: DAN insurance plan for freedivers?

My hubby and I have had coverage with DAN for 15 years. He's never made a claim. I've made 2 smalls claims (cracked 2 ribs on a dive platform and got poked by a lobster that got infected) until this year.

On 3/31, I broke my leg and tore my rotator cuff while diving from a charter boat in Jupiter. We took a side wave and it washed my fin out from under me just as I was stepping down. Broke my fibula in multiple places, shired my tibia, had tendon and ligament damange. I've had to have 2 surgeries and still have one more to go. DAN has been AWESOME! And the hospitals have accept their info as secondary insurance so I haven't even had to 'pay first and then submit a claim' to get reimbursed. So far, my 'out of pocket' (which is what DAN covers) is over $6,000!

AND, if you don't have ANY insurance, DAN becomes your primary.

I have a friend who has had DAN insurance for years but didn't renew this year because he's been doing more boat driving than diving. Well, something stung, bit, or poked him during mini-season and he ended up in the hospital for 3 days with heavy duty IV anti-biotics and then a 10 day oral treatment. He has no insurance. For a simple $75, it would have ALL been covered.

DAN - Don't dive without it! I consider my DAN card my most valuable piece of dive equipment!

If you want to see the gnarly pictures, go to the East Coast of Florida section and search for posts made by me between 3/31 and 4/5. No blood. My hubby says it has an 'artistic beauty'. He's a sick pup! LOL

Anyway, I'm a scuba diver and, apparently, a klutz. Are we more at risk than skin divers? DAN does cover skin divers.

Yikes! Well that settles that I'm on it tonight. Seems like a no brainier for $75 bucks. I'm sitting here wondering why after all these years I'm just getting to this.

Thank you for sharing. Hope your final surgery goes well and is followed by a very speedy recovery.
