Gun build questions
Hey guys it's been forever since I've been on here as I kinda got out of the sport for a while but I'm getting back into it and am very excited... I still have my old gun I built, but I work in a cabinet shop so I have everything I need to make a new one... I've started making some blanks, one being 2 half in lams of walnut and 3 half in lams of oak. The other is 2 x 1/4 in alder with 3 x 1/2 in oak. How do those sound? We also have hickory and it's hard as a Rock would it be good to make a blank out of? Also does anyone have the dimensions of the old reverse mechs from neptonics? And the elite handle specs? I haven't taken my old gun out of storage and it has the parts I'll be using on it.
Thanks a lot guys!! Wyatt

Re: Gun build questions
And can anyone tell me what size shaft fit the reverse mech? xD I feel like I remember the guy at neptonics telling me on the phone that it was 9/32 only but that was 5 years ago and I don't remember haha

For open tracks you'll probably mount the mech between an 1/8 and a 1/4 proud. Don't forget the top of the mech is covered (I don't have the thickness memorized) so you will have to take that into account when planning the depth of the track and how high to place the mech. Good luck and keep us posted. Ed M. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Re: Gun build questions
I'll keep you updated but pics will be hard, because my work doesn't like phones on the floor

Re: Gun build questions
This is the gun so far... I ****ed up the track so I took out shall inch by half inch track and glued in a walnut piece. Screwed that one up by an 1/8th inch so I'm trying one last time and am putting oak where the slot is now... I honestly think this will make for a pretty cool wood pattern but we will see... Any advice?
Thanks guys Wyatt

Re: Gun build questions
I'd make sure you put several coats of epoxy over the gun when you're done and me personally I'd stay away from Hickory way too squirrely
